After what felt at times like a very trying year, Nordic Game brought 2020 to a rousing close online last week with our eighteenth edition, NG20+ on 25-27 November, streamed live from Slagthuset in Malmö, Sweden.
So how’d we do?
We’re very happy to report that NG20+, hosted by Nordic Game program director Jacob Riis along with co-hosts Sara Casén and Rasmus Kunstlicher from Malmö’s own game powerhouse Sharkmob, was not only pure pleasure to produce, but also the year’s second online hit with our ever-growing Nordic Game community.
The lively contributions of our speakers and participants, as well as the tremendous support of our sponsors and partners throughout 2020 played an immensely important role in our success this November with NG20+ – and in May with NG20.
Thank you so very much – to our participants, speakers, sponsors, partners and good friends from the global games industry. You made 2020 literally our best year ever 🙂
Nordic Game 2020 by-the-numbers
Diving into the actual stats, we’re especially proud of last week’s event, but also exceedingly happy with what we’ve been able to achieve together during the entire year.
Power to the people: NG20+ well-surpassed our previous online record in May, as over 1500 pass holders joined us for three eventful days in November.
For the year, we’ve nearly hit our magic 3000 participant goal – but 2020’s still in play as our special flashback offer (now extended) continues until 31 January. Trying not to burst into song is really a challenge for us right now 😀
Our speakers led the way: Knowledge is a cornerstone of the Nordic Game experience, and the NG20+ speaker program in November featured a wide range of talks, from inspiring to intense, by over 150 experts; sharing their valuable knowledge on our live stream and in our extensive selection of exclusive, pre-recorded sessions, as well as one-on-one with pass holders on our Discord channel.
There’s so much about the fall program we’d like to highlight, but we’re not really qualified 😉 – head over here to our conference website to get a bird’s-eye view for yourself.
Meetings & more meetings, oh my: Nearly 700 participants were active on MeetToMatch last week during NG20+, bringing the year’s grand total of online meetings held at Nordic Game on MeetToMatch to a staggering 3500+.
Breathtaking productivity – hats off to the MeetToMatch team for creating the hands-down finest online business matchmaking and remote conferencing platform in the games industry – and kudos to our very, very busy participants 😉
Getting close up and personable: Building on the popularity of our Discord debut last May, NG20+ stepped the excitement up to a whole new level last week.
It’s hard to know where to begin; the incredible back-and-forth with Ste Curran after his True Confessions talk (and the #Story Tell thread that just won’t stop), the rush for hot games during the Paradox giveaway, the thousands(!) of votes that streamed in to nominate the NGDC Season IV People’s Choice winner – and a special, yet-to-be-revealed something planned on Discord for our flashback participants this month 😉
Ultimately it’s been the Nordic Game community, pushing each other to engage and creating funny situations together – that’s in so many ways nailed the Nordic Game vibe online.
And “as the raisin in the end of the sausage” (Jacob’s favorite Danish [Ed: ?] expression), evenings last week marked the premiere (and extension to the wee hours by popular demand) of Chatroulette a la Nordic Game, finally bringing those precious serendipitous encounters with peers to our online experience.
And to note, great fun was had all around, without any complaints of bad behavior – a true testament to the Nordic Game community that’s all about mutual respect, trust and openness. Oh yeah!
So to wrap it all up, finally: The version of 2020 we ended up with was definitely not the one we thought we’d have back in the heady days of early January, but thanks to you – our participants old and new, our many speakers, sponsors, partners and good friends from region and around the world, Nordic Game made it through; stronger and happier than ever.
Though we can hardly wait to reveal our exciting plans for 2021, as a modest beginning, mark 26-28 May and 17-19 November in your calendars, okay? You know why 😉
Happiest of holidays and warmest of wishes for a fab new year from us all at Nordic Game!
