In the information-packed presentation at Nordic Game, GIANTS Software’s sound designers Kristian Caprani and Nils Heine showcase the audio pipeline for recording and implementing vehicles into the Farming Simulator series in detail. They discuss the approach to recording tractors, detailing the equipment, techniques and conditions that are used to capture the sound of these complex machines.
Tips On Processing & Editing High-Quality Audio Assets
That includes a demonstration on how the sound experts process and edit the recordings to make high quality audio assets: Exploring effective processing, the power of semi-automated editing using custom actions within Reaper and some tricks & tips on how to create perfect seamless loops.
Also, they detail how they compare and analyze on/offload audio recordings to extract useable EQ profiles, which can then be used as a basis of real-time processing in the game to create a dynamic load sound.
The real-time processing of our in-game vehicle audio will be explored in detail using our bespoke Loop Synthesis software.
Finally, they show and discuss their approach to implementing each of the recorded elements, using in-game parameter changes as sound modifiers. This brings the recordings and audio assets to life, creating a sense of dynamism and interactivity in-line with real world tractors.
