Update 17.12.18: Nordisk Film Games has raised their ownership in Star Stable Entertainment to 40 per cent in a 9.7 million EUR acquisition of existing shares.
Earlier this year, Nordisk Film Games invested 15 million EUR for a substantial minority stake in Star Stable Entertainment, the Swedish studio behind Star Stable, a MMORPG adventure game for girls.
Star Stable encourages girls to work together to solve problems and complete challenges while exploring a vast, complex fantasy world from horseback. With more than 14 million registered users in 182 countries, Star Stable is the most popular online horse game in the world and one of the few targeted specifically towards girls.

Star Stable Entertainment is a privately-held company, founded in 2011 and based in Stockholm with more than 100 employees. With Nordisk Film Games as a new minority owner, Star Stable Entertainment eyes further development and growth.
”Our journey to provide a meaningful game experience for girls has just begun, and we continue to give new players around the world a great welcome as they embark on a fantastic adventure and become part of a worldwide community,” says Star Stable Entertainment CEO Johan Sjöberg. “We are very happy that Nordisk Film (Games) recognises the importance of our mission and are joining us on this journey.”
Nordisk Film is a leading Nordic entertainment company, distributor of Sony PlayStation products in the region and part of Egmont. Nordisk Film Games is a new unit investing in Nordic game studios, with the current deal their fifth investment thus far. Since 2017, Nordisk Film Games has acquired minority positions in Stockholm-based Avalanche Studios (Just Cause, Mad Max, The Hunter) as well as Copenhagen-based studios Reto Moto (Heroes & Generals), Flashbulb Games (Trailmakers) and Multiverse (Kogama.com).
”Star Stable is a fantastic online game and fantasy universe for a much under-served target audience. What the company and team have achieved is nothing short of amazing, and we’re very excited to get the chance to get on board and help with further growth and development,” says Nordisk Film Games senior partner Martin Walfisz. “We are convinced that the Star Stable journey has only just started and tens of millions of girls will continue to find and enjoy this amazing horse-fantasy universe in the decades to come.”
