Nordic Game welcomes Kate Edwards as Exec Summit host

This May, games industry leaders from the Nordic region and across the globe will once again gather in Malmö for the Nordic Game Executive Summit, to confront shared challenges and together seek actionable solutions.

Nordic Game as organiser, and myself as a participant, rarely play a significant role in the choice of topics and discussions, which are normally driven by management and founders from game companies along with their counterparts in the trade associations and the public sector.

This gathering will be very different. In consultation with colleagues in the industry and this spring’s host, Kate Edwards – Geogrify CEO and former executive director of the International Game Developers Association and the Global Game Jam – this edition will be dedicated to examining staff training, appropriate behavior and sexual misconduct, the rights of both survivors and the people who cause harm in cases of abuse and the lingering culture of silence, as well as the resources available (or lack thereof) to managers that I myself have confronted while attempting to fairly and thoroughly navigate and resolve these complex and highly divisive issues.

As Edwards explains, “It’s never easy to address these kinds of issues, which is why they often are not systematically confronted in the workplace. But at this point, anyone working in a management role in games (as well as other industries) must be fully aware of their critical responsibility to provide safe and inclusive workplaces. My hope for this year’s Executive Summit is to help facilitate an open and honest dialogue about constructive steps we must individually and collectively take to protect the amazingly talented people of this industry.”

The Nordic Game Executive Summit is open to games industry leaders by invitation only. This extraordinary edition presents a unique opportunity for participants to share their experiences and propose solutions regarding one of the most important challenges any manager will ever encounter, both on a “personal” (organisational) level and a “global” (industry-wide) plane.

Request an invitation to join us at this May’s Executive Summit by completing the form here. I look very much forward to meeting you in Malmö.

Truly yours,
