NG23 Spring breaks records

NG23 Spring takes place in Malmö, Sweden on 23-26 May, but ticket sales are already breaking records. As of mid-March, total paid registrations are well above former editions two months before kick-off, with over 2,400 participants expected this May, up more than 15 per cent from last year’s NG22 Spring, Nordic Game’s first post-pandemic in-person event.

“After the pandemic period, pent-up demand (for in-person events) in 2022 was enormous, but some potential participants were still hesitant, expecting another outbreak. This year, ‘the doors are flying off the hinges’ – we have never seen ticket sales at this pace before,” says Nordic Game managing director and founder Erik Robertson.

For the busy organisers, the focus is not only to make this edition of Nordic Game the biggest and most rewarding ever for participants, but also their safest and most welcoming event yet.

“Each and every one of our participants deserves to feel welcome, appreciated and above all, safe at Nordic Game. This year, we have gone the extra mile to ensure that. Our well-being preparations have been expanded to include not only gender sensitivity issues, but also physical limitations requiring on-site companions or increased accessibility. The goal is nothing less than to organise our most inclusive games industry event ever,” says NG23 Spring producer Sara Lindskog.

Nordic Game has also revised all employment contracts, including agreements with consultants, to include the company’s updated code of conduct, and is continuing to review and expand the safety features of its events. These actions build on policies initiated earlier, such as mandatory acceptance of the Nordic Game code of conduct prior to pass purchase and in-person acknowledgment of the same when event badges are issued on-site.

“Physical safety at our events is of course of the highest importance to us. In addition to regular security staff on-site, we have also recruited a “safety team,” consisting exclusively of women, instructed on how to manage any possible inconvenience perceived by our participants and how to address irregularities, in accordance with our code of conduct,” Sara Lindskog adds.

Internally, the entire Nordic Game team has participated in a staff training program conducted by Gender Balance, an independent Swedish consultancy specialising in equality and discrimination issues. Nordic Game has also contracted an independent whistle-blower platform to anonymously report any misconduct, which to date has not received any submissions, and invited speakers to address topics such as workplace conduct and professional behaviour at their conference.

NG23 Spring takes place at historic Slagthuset in central Malmö, Sweden from Tuesday, 23 May to Friday, 26 May.
