On 23 February, the first qualifier of the Nordic Game Discovery Contest Season VI was held at Africa Games Week in Cape Town, South Africa. This month’s qualifier marked the third time the NGDC has been hosted by Africa Games Week, where Drawkanoid qualified in 2018 and later went on to win NGDC Game of the Year in the Season III finals.
It will be exciting to see if this year’s champion in Cape Town can do the same, as South African developer Skinnyboy Interactive has qualified for the NGDC Season VI Grand Finals with their title Banana Republic – an open world RPG fighting game, based on the economic and political struggles faced by people in a fictional place in Southern Africa. The player takes the role of a former political leader, attempting to stop opposition parties from tainting their name and image.
