Audio Focus at NG25 Spring
On Tuesday May 20, a significant portion of the Day 1 speaker program at NG25 Spring will spotlight the vital role of audio in game development. The extensive program will delve into essential areas of audio production, showcasing its impact on gaming experiences.
Curated by the dynamic duo of Sèbastien Croteau, a renowned voice acting phenomenon celebrated for his versatility and ability to bring characters to life, and Thor Mýrdal, an audio expert known for his innovative techniques and passion for sound design, as well as being the lead singer of legendary metal band World of Sickness, this audio-focused day promises to be enlightening, engaging and hopefully loud at times.

Panel: Same Game, Different Music
This long-running tradition at Nordic Game will explore how different musical compositions can alter the gaming experience, discussing the relationship between soundtracks, audio technique, and player engagement. Star Wars Outlaws: Developing the Voice for Our Mischievous Pet Companion Nix
In this session, Oskar Hansson takes attendees behind the scenes of Star Wars Outlaws, where the main character Kay Vess is joined by the curious creature Nix. Oskar will share the voice design process, detailing how the team created convincing and emotive lines for this alien companion. He’ll discuss everything from asset creation and recording human vocal performances to gameplay implementation, illustrating how vocalizations convey game states and provide meaningful feedback as a player companion. Attendees can look forward to insights on character building and storytelling strategies that breathe life into this colorful addition to the Star Wars universe.

In this practical session, François Fripiat will share essential tips on creating high-quality audio for indie games without breaking the bank. Drawing from experience across over 50 games, he’ll offer simple hacks, budget-friendly strategies, and effective workflow tips designed to reduce risks and save time. This talk is perfect for solo developers and small teams looking to enhance their audio quality on a limited budget.
