Nordic Game Flashback: Expedition 33
First ARC Raiders. Then Life Below. This week, stay on the Nordic Game YouTube channel for the narrative talk of the year 😉
The NG26 recordings are still working talks, not souvenirs. Watch what you missed. Send this one to a writer, a narrative designer, or anyone who has to protect a story inside a production.
If you only have time for one video this week, make it this one.

Watch: The Writing of Clair Obscur: Expedition 3×3

Jennifer Svedberg-Yen, Lead Writer and Voice & Localization Producer on Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, takes the main theatre through a simple frame: three elements of being a creative, and three skills underneath them. The session title on the NG26 program was Expedition 3×3. The questions on the door were bigger: What does it mean to be a storyteller, and how do you deepen the work?
This is why it is worth the 36 minutes:
It is not a plot recap. Expedition 33 already did the awards circuit: Best Narrative at The Game Awards 2025, Outstanding Achievement in Story at the 2026 D.I.C.E. Awards, a record run of TGA nominations, a Golden Joystick sweep. Jennifer does not retell the Paintress. She talks about the job – how a writer actually evolves the work while a game is being built.
Voice and localisation sat in the same chair. She was not only lead writer. She produced voice and loc. You hear how story, performance and language have to travel together, not as three departments waving at each other from Slack.
It came from an unusual road. Jennifer came onto the project from a Reddit call for voice actors and became lead writer. Sandfall was a first-time studio. The game still became one of 2025’s defining stories. The talk is useful whether you are in a 12-person room or a 200-person pipeline.
It belongs next to the other Flashbacks. Embark showed how a huge live game iterates on data. Megapop showed how a small team builds a world from a living system. Jennifer shows how a story holds when the whole industry is watching. Same conference. Same channel.
Then keep going. On the same channel: ARC Raiders, Life Below, Jesper Kyd, Housemarque on SAROS, Planet of Lana, and the rest of NG26’s 179 speakers.
