Nordic Game partner Guerrilla shares a special message in the run-up to NG21 May:
When you join Guerrilla as an intern or junior you’re involved in our game projects from day one, and encouraged to contribute in direct and meaningful ways. Our hierarchy is relatively flat, and we value the ability to freely share ideas and opinions. This can create surprising and amazing potential for impact, even if you’re still new to your career in games.
Horizon Forbidden West Game Director Mathijs de Jonge shares his insights in this Guerrilla Talks – PS5 video:
Just ask Tools Programmer David Marcelis, who started his internship in 2018 by re-imagining a key component of the studio’s version control system “After an introduction to the toolset we began discussing ideas the team had that matched my interests,” David recalls. “We quickly landed on the check-in dialog. Figuring out how to connect the various systems was quite a puzzle, but also a good way to familiarize myself with Guerrilla’s frameworks.”
One month later, David submitted his new check-in dialog prototype to the Tools Team for feedback. It was found to offer significant enhancements to the check-in process and, after a few weeks of iteration, deemed ready for production.
“And it’s still in use today,” David says. Now a mid-level Tools Programmer with several vital contributions to Guerrilla’s systems under his belt, he recently signed a permanent contract with the studio. “It’s really cool to see the entire studio use something you’ve made in the first months of your internship.”
