Angie Smets, Siobhan Reddy and Robin Hunicke are ready as NG18 headline speakers.
It’s a great pleasure for the Nordic Game organisers to announce three of the global games industry’s most influential developers as speakers at NG18, 23-25 May in Malmö, Sweden.
Angie Smets, executive producer at Guerrilla Games, will talk about the studio’s blockbuster hit Horizon Zero Dawn. Her session will be a reflection on the seven-year journey that took Guerrilla from their dark first-person shooter franchise Killzone to the lush open world of Horizon Zero Dawn. Using early concepts and prototypes, she will illustrate the studio’s creative process, cover their biggest challenges and share lessons learned from developing new IP.
Siobhan Reddy is studio director at Media Molecule, the creative minds behind LittleBigPlanet, as well as the award-winning Tearaway games. The studio is currently working on the PS4 title Dreams, the next evolution in the play, create and share experience started with LittleBigPlanet. Her talk, dubbed “Glitter and Doom Part Two” is about artists whom share themselves with their audience. Jumping off that cliff and hoping wings will grow is hard, but it’s why we create and why we feel great when even just one person appreciates our work. “Glitter and Doom” is about daring to do new things.
Robin Hunicke, CEO and co-founder of Funomena, spent the last 15 years exploring experimental design in titles such as Luna, WOORLD, Wattam, Journey, Boom Blox, MySims and The Sims 2. She is also a vocal advocate for diversity. Her talk is entitled “Experimental Game Design – The Next Five Years”. What are the interesting, juicy problems that game design can tackle in the next five years? What subjects, technological challenges and patterns of play should we be looking to in order to expand the capability of our medium – and shape our future as people on this planet? Come find out!
