Since 2010, Danish non-profit Game Girl Workshop (GGW) has been inspiring girls to design games to tell their own personal stories. They’ve worked with girls in Palestine, Saudi Arabia and Scandinavia – and the response has been amazing.
Check out the video from GGW participant Lujayn Kanaan:
However, women and girls are still underrepresented in the tech and entertainment industries. The need for creative and expressive spaces for diverse girls to use technology on their own terms has never been greater.
Now GGW is building a long-term plan to work with girls and teens in marginalised regions to teach game creation. They’re growing GGW beyond one-time workshops to on-going programs driven by local community members. These programs will empower girls in their daily lives over a period of years.
GGW wants to begin by working together with communities in previous workshop sites, to build region-specific plans which address the ongoing needs and interests of the participants.
But to realise this goal, GGW needs support from the Danish development grant CISU – and asks your help to apply for the grant. More specifically, GGW needs 50 people to stand together and support their work through GGW membership.
