Helsinki-based indie studio Virtual Air Guitar Company has revealed the studio’s upcoming Xbox One motion controller game, Squid Hero for Kinect.
As the titular “Squid Hero”, players travel across the world, using the power of Kinect to smash thousands of encroaching chunks of ice. The game challenges the players’ accuracy and dexterity in turbo-speed races, rhythm sections and saving hapless critters, culminating in epic giant robot boss fights.
Like developer’s hit Boom Ball from 2014, the arcade-inspired game is suitable for all ages. Squid Hero is also the first of the company’s games to feature two-player Kinect co-op. The entire campaign can be played in both single-player and local co-op modes, and the mode can be switched at any time with a single button press between levels.
“There’s an extra dimension of fun when you play a motion game with a friend or family member. We wanted to let people experience Squid Hero together, so it’s been a guiding factor in design right from the start,” says lead designer and company founder Aki Kanerva. “Everything you do in the game makes sense both alone and with a second player.”
