Norwegian studio Rock Pocket Games has released their zany sci-fi puzzler Shiftlings this week for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
In Shiftlings, one-two players take on the role of weird little creatures, guiding them together through the game’s hazardous levels in endearing co-op play. Sounds easy? Well, the trick is that the game’s characters are a couple of daft goofballs joined together by an air cable, which presents both an obstacle to the player and constitutes Shiftlings’ primary mechanic.
By blowing air back and forth and inflating the creatures’ suits, players can manipulate heavy objects, bounce the game characters into each other and into the air, and other physics-based gameplay – with lots of ensuing hilarious slapstick comedy when the characters fail to do what’s planned (which tends to happen pretty often…).
Rock Pocket Games are planning iOS, Android and Ouya versions of Shiftlings in the future.
