Last May, Nordic Game had the pleasure of welcoming a delegation from Québec to NG17. Let’s get to know them a bit better!
To support the growth of independent game studios and diversification of actors and interests in the Québec region, La Guilde des développeurs de jeux vidéo indépendants du Québec (Québec Independent Video Game Developers Guild) was founded last year.
Looking for a way to pool their resources while preserving their creative autonomy, the “La Guilde” founders chose the cooperative model for their new organisation. La Guilde members now include over 125 independent Quebec studios, largest independent video game cooperative in the world.

“In the last five years, the number of independent studios has more than quadrupled in Québec,”, says president La Guilde Louis-Félix Cauchon. “The goal of La Guilde is to give Québec independent studios a strong united voice in order to support them in creating a collective wealth.”
Diversity through innovation
With support from partners Chantier de l’économie social du Québec, several services are available to the members of La Guilde cooperative, among them insurance services for their employees and businesses, legal services, accounting and tax services, translation services and much more.
La Guild has also set up several projects to democratise the video game industry, including the public game jam event JamNATION and an open concert by the Montreal Orchestra Company of video game music produced in Québec.
