The result of an EU project to create and launch a platform that resolves data and application portability issues in the cloud PaaS market through flexible and efficient deployment and migration, PaaSport Marketplace allows both PaaS developers and providers to register their PaaS offerings and deploy applications to a PaaS accordingly.
Now the PaaSport Marketplace consortium in cooperation with the German Institute for Standardisation (DIN) are jointly developing internationally recognised standardised specifications for PaaSport technology, in order to bring the consortium’s research and innovations to a wider audience.
Standardisation is a process of developing technical standards agreed upon by different parties to maximise compatibility, interoperability, safety, repeatability and quality. In addition, standards help clarify product characteristics and promote cooperation among market participants. By defining broadly accepted interfaces and compatibility requirements, standardisation serves as a catalyst for innovation and helps bring solutions to the market.
PaaSport and DIN have already developed a set of internationally standardised specifications for cloud platform application management interfaces (APIs) and are working together on a standardised group of unified application management interfaces (UAMIs) for cloud platforms as well. The standardised APIs, UAMIs and associated materials (in English) will be available next year.
