On 15 May, Oslo-based Parsec Foundation and Artplant are launching an ICO (Initial Coin Offering) for the game Parsec Frontiers and tokens, as well as opening an auction for the first spaceships to become available in the game.
Parsec Frontiers is a full-featured space MMO being developed by veteran Norwegian studio Artplant, where the whole virtual economy is backed by blockchain technology, allowing for all new ways to play and interact with a game world. The full game is set to launch in December 2019.

“It’s a very natural step for a game like this to embrace blockchain technology to empower the virtual economy driving the game.” says Parsec Foundation founder and Artplant COO Henning Rokling. “Not only will it give players full transparency of what assets, ships and resources are available and tradable, but it will also allow players to invest time or money into a game and also bring those investments out of the game if they want to.”
“With Parsec Frontiers we’re allowing players to shape the direction of the world early on, and thus the opportunity to get an exclusive spaceship to explore nearby solar systems from the very start is a big thing,” says Artplant CEO Jack Wulff. “We’ll only be offering the ARK-class ships to the first 100 players, beginning with an auction starting on 15 May. These ships will also be fully tradable and with blockchain technology players will for the first time actually own the ship. We think that is a fairly unique proposition in addition to the extra layer a fully blockchain based virtual economy is adding to the game.”
Artplant a Norwegian online game developer founded by Funcom and Innerloop veterans in 2001. It focuses on creating competitive player-versus-player games and is best known for the game Battlestar Galactica Online.
