Newly established, Oslo-based NokNokAudio provides services for everything audio-related; sound and music design, voice/dialogue work and implementation.
Founded last month by Ali Cedroni, Oda Tilset and Martin Kvale, who have worked on games such as Apple Arcade posterboy Skate City, The Game Awards winner Tanknarok and BAFTA nominated Manifold Garden, the three saw a need for more diverse work in projects as the independent game scene is grows in size and its games in complexity.
“We had a look at the industry, and there are so many companies making fantastic games, but a lot of them don’t have a dedicated audio team,” says NokNokAudio co-founder Martin Kvale. “We are able to offer that easily, and our skill sets complement each other perfectly, which allows us to adapt based on what needs to be done for a project at any given time.”
The company was also founded with considerations for health and stability.
“Life as a game audio freelancer is hectic, with bouts of little work and periods of huge amounts of crunch,” adds Martin. “It’s common for game audio professionals to take on a large number of projects, and there’s always a chance you might end up crunching, even with the best of planning. In addition, being a freelancer means it’s harder to take proper vacation, and there is less security should one become sick, both for yourself and your employers. As a company we hope to mitigate these issues and create a healthier day to day life for the three of us, and also provide the companies we collaborate with more security.”
Martin concludes, “We look forward to taking our first steps into this industry as a team, and to grow and make beautiful games together.”
