Nordisk Film Games has announced plans to invest five million USD in Reto Moto, Copenhagen-based developer of the popular WWII game Heroes & Generals. Nordisk Film Games MD Mikkel Weider and senior partner Martin Walfisz will also join the Reto Moto board.
Established in 2008 by the original founders of IO Interactive and the creators of the Hitman series, Reto Moto develops and operates Heroes & Generals, a free-to-play first-person shooter game where Germany, the US and the Soviet Union fight for victory in a grand online war.
“The deal with Nordisk Film (Games) is very exciting. Partnering with such a competent investor is a validation of our mission to deliver the ultimate WWII game experience and it will help us realise Reto Moto’s full potential,” says Reto Moto CEO Jean-Marc Broyer. “We have our eyes set on aggressive growth in the international gaming market and we are pleased to work with the team at Nordisk Film (Games) to achieve our objectives.”
Nordisk Film Games’ investment in Reto Moto is part of the entertainment company’s overall strategy of investing in talented Nordic game development studios. The deal is the fourth of its kind for Nordisk Film Games, with current minority stakes in Danish studio Flashbulb Games, Swedish developer Avalanche Studios and Danish gaming and game creation platform operator Multiverse.
“Reto Moto is an experienced and well-run game studio with a huge appetite for growth. Heroes & Generals is an ambitious online game combining a first person shooter, character progression mechanics and unique elements of the strategy genre,” says Nordisk Film Games MD Mikkel Weider. “Reto Moto is founded and run by some of the best game developers in the world, it fits our portfolio perfectly and we are thrilled to be working with them in developing the company further.”
