On 12-13 September, pop culture phenomena Comic Con came to Malmö, filling Malmömässan with exhibits from the world of comics, movies, TV-series and games, live e-sport tournaments on the main stage and many impressively costumed attendees as part of Comic Con’s cosplay line-up of shows and competitions.
Right next to the main stage, 20 Nordic studios also exhibited their latest titles in the debut NG Universe, bringing new Nordic talents together with their audiences in an intimate setting, with gamers playing the newest titles from the region and meeting with the creators in person.
Cosplay, NG Universe at Comic Con Malmö 2015
The concept proved to be very successful – the NG Universe area was packed with people looking to play the latest Nordic games, and the exhibiting developers from around the region had lots of fun chatting with the gamers, watching them play and taking notes on their reactions and comments.
Nordic Game would like to thank all the Nordic studios that joined the very first NG Universe for a great time at Comic Con Malmö, and an extra warm thanks to Unity – who sponsored the #madewithunity collection of six Nordic titles – as well as our partners BenQ and Nordic GameBits. We’re really looking forward to expanding the NG Universe in the future – so watch this space! 🙂
Gamers and devs, NG Universe at Comic Con Malmö 2015
If you missed the NG Universe at Comic Con Malmö last weekend, but would like to know more about the participating studios and their games, here’s a brief exhibitor summary:
Malmö’s CANWZ offers new technology and a platform for games and interactive content on public screens and in digital signage environments – both a digital signage solution 2.0 and a very concrete expression of Internet of Things & location-based content.
The Dream Machine is an award-winning adventure game for PC from Sweden’s Cockroach Incorporated studio. The game is about dreams and voyeurism, and its game’s characters and environments were built by hand, using materials such as clay and cardboard.
Malmö-based Frogsong Studios presents Spellsworn for PC, where players assume the role of a mighty wizard. Smash friends and foes out of arenas situated in environments ranging from the magma-filled bottom of a volcano to the glades of faerie forests.
Gattling Goat Studios
Karlshamn-based Gattling Goat Studios have two games to show: Chiku is a local multiplayer platformer for Xbox One, PS4, PC & Mac, and Traverser is an action/adventure game for PC.
Stockholm’s LandFall Games studio will show Air Brawl, a fast-paced multiplayer dog-fighting game for Windows, Mac & Linux, and Highway Fight Squad, a physics-based platform game for Windows, Mac & Linux.
In Paparazzi Run, an upcoming F2P game for iOS & Android devices from Danish studio Level Rewind and published by Playscape, you’ve just arrived to Hollywood and want to make it big. The studio will also showcase Peewee, a new F2P game for Android, with characters drawing shapes while going “number one” outdoors.
Mexond Games are bringing 3 new titles: Animated Puzzles STAR, a relaxing jigsaw-style puzzle game, Decoy, a fast-paced top-view action title, and T-Kara Puzzles, a match-4 puzzler. All the games are for Windows 8/10, Windows Phone, iOS & Android.
In Belladonna, a gothic adventure game for PC, players take the role of a girl rising from the dead in an abandoned laboratory, to unravel the mysteries concerning her death and reanimation.
Odd Comet Games
Odd Comet Games brings you Castle Chaos, a local multiplayer game for PC, Mac & Linux, where up to four players construct castles with random puzzle shapes and then destroy their opponents’ castles with cannons.
Wartile is a real time strategy game for PC from Farum-based Playwood Project studio. In Wartile, set in a miniature medieval fantasy universe, players control a small band of figurines by picking them up and placing them on the miniature battle map – like a game of chess without turns.
Copenhagen’s Reign Bros throws Stikbold! right at you: A colourful and cartoony action/dodge-ball game for PC & consoles, set in the 70’s and heavily inspired by Scandinavian culture and the athletes of that era.
Gothenburg’s YCJY studio takes you deep, deep down with The Aquatic Adventure of the Last Human, an underwater metroidvania-style action/adventure game for Windows, Mac & Linux.
MindFork is a fast-paced action/puzzle game for iOS from Helsinki-based Zaubug studio.
The #madewithunity Showcase
Unity – the Danish development platform for creating 2D/3D games and interactive experiences – is also showcasing six selected Nordic indie titles.
The #madewithunity projects chosen by Unity and Nordic Game represent some of the best new titles from the region, and Comic Con visitors will get to try-out the games for themselves at the show.
