Danish developer Logic Artists unveiled Expeditions: Viking, the second instalment in the studio’s historical RPG Expeditions series currently in development, at the Nordic Game conference in Malmö last week.
Expeditions: Viking, set in the late 700s AD, builds on the tactical RPG format of the first game in the series, Expeditions: Conquistador. In Expeditions: Viking the player inherits leadership of a clan and is charged with elevating the clan’s status by adventuring and defending the clan’s home turf.
“We are very excited to return to our roots in the RPG genre, and as developers from the Nordic region, to make a game in a setting that is a lot closer to home than anything we’ve done before,” said Logic Artists creative director Jonas Wæver. “We’re improving on the Conquistador formula with deeper and more dynamic systems for character progression, combat abilities, role-playing, choice and consequence, and expanding on our favorite part of Conquistador – camping and wilderness survival.”
Logic Artists has a number of new features planned for this sequel, including an upgradable village that players build and protect between expeditionary raids. Players will also see their character visibly represented in travel and combat, and not just as a role-playing character in conversations and decision-making.

Expeditions: Viking is scheduled for release in 2016.
