As the third VGBA Games Legal Affairs & Business Summit on 23 August at Gamescom 2017 is rapidly approaching, here’s a highlight of a few of the panels that bring together this special gathering of some of the world’s leading practitioners:
Keynote: A New European Sales Law for Games – the DSM and the Digital Content Directive
Presented by Ulrich Kelber, EU Parliamentary State Secretary
The EU is forging ahead with projects to establish a Digital Single Market (DSM). One building block of this global initiative is the Digital Content Directive, aiming to update and harmonise the law governing contracts for the provision of digital content, among other things by creating specific warranty rights and rules for “payment by data”. The keynote provides an update on the contents of the draft directive and that status of the legislative process.
Panel: DSM and the Digital Content Directive
Moderated by Dr. Christian-Henner Hentsch, Legal Counsel, BIU
How will the Digital Single Market initiative in general and the Digital Content Directive in particular impact the games industry? Is the proposed legislative framework suitable for its purpose, or are modifications required? The panel discussion will feature opinions, questions and answers from the perspective of industry lawyers.
