InnoGames celebrates 10th Anniversary of Global Strategy Hit Forge of Empires

Nordic Game is proud to feature a partner story from InnoGames:

InnoGames, Germany’s leading developer and publisher of online and mobile games, celebrates the 10th Anniversary of its strategy city-builder Forge of Empires. The global hit not only experienced steady growth since its launch in 2012 but even gathered momentum in recent years: In 2019, the title reached the EUR 500 million lifetime revenue mark, with more than half of its lifetime revenue earned between 2017 and 2019.

“Forge of Empires has come a long way. The game was originally released on browsers only but eventually transitioned to four global mobile platforms. In retrospect, the move to mobile was one of the keys to turning Fore of Empires into a massive worldwide hit. Despite the games’ age, we still have one of our largest teams working on it. Its members are fiercely dedicated to improving the game’s quality across all platforms, and to delivering fun and entertaining updates on a weekly basis. I would like to thank everyone involved at InnoGames, and especially the game’s loyal fanbase, for shaping such an entertaining gaming experience”, said Stefan Walter, Studio Director at InnoGames.

To date, players of Forge of Empires have spent more than 311,482 years’ worth of playtime and have built approximately 60 million cities. When the game was first released, it included a total of 6 eras and several months’ worth of content. Following the release of “Space Age Venus”, there are now 20 eras with over 5 years’ worth of content including 1,000+ different buildings to construct, and popular features such as Guild Expeditions and Cultural Settlements. On average, it takes players 2,381 days, or 6.5 years, to progress through the eras.

Besides extending the game’s life via a successful transition to mobile, InnoGames ensured the longevity of its browser version by means of an automated conversion from Flash to HTML5 when Adobe discontinued support for Flash in 2020. InnoGames was the first game developer worldwide to do so using the open-source compiler HAXE and without Code Freeze.

To celebrate Forge of Empire’s 10th Anniversary, a new board game-themed event was launched. The objective was simple: to progress around the board. With each advancement around the board, players took a trip through each of the game’s unique eras. More information about the 10th Anniversary event can be found in this video:
