Gaming Top Talent, a contest designed to support mobile game developers around the world, will host open auditions during GDC in San Francisco next week and at NG16 in Malmö this May.
Founded by IPC Ventures in partnership with Affinity and major industry partners, the Gaming Top Talent contest offers a total prize value of over 1M USD to the winners, including capital investment and exclusive publishing deals.
“Venture investing is all about talent discovery and empowerment; the same applies to investing in the games industry,” explains IPC managing partner Shelley Lau. “With the rise of digital and mobile technologies and lower production cost, there is no lack of talents or game products. However, finding the next best “top talents” (requires) a much deeper and extensive search and filtering process via less beaten paths.”
Lau, a participant on the Nordic Funding Panel at the NG15 Investing in Games Summit, adds: “We (also) believe that the Nordic region is still an under-served market from a capital investment standpoint, yet it has the rich talent pool, as well as an unique creative culture and technological history, (to) build scalable, sustainable and repeatable gaming ventures and (hubs) on a global and long-term basis.”
Gaming Top Talent takes a unique approach to the traditional pitch format, combining live on-site pre-auditions with a permanent social media presence, collaborating with high profile “YouTubers” and influencers to enhance content distribution and online viewership. The competition also accepts online submissions on an ongoing basis.
The contest consists of three main phases over a period of nine months: Pre-auditions, Boot Camp and Grand Finale. Competitors selected for Boot Camp will go through rounds of challenges, working alongside mentors to improve their games before the finalists are selected.
March pre-auditions will take place at the following locations:
14-16 March: Game Connection (AT&T Park)
17 March: Pocket Gamer Big Indie Pitch event (within their venue)
To participate in the Gaming Top Talent pre-auditions in San Francisco, studios should contact the organisers by Sunday, 13 March (midnight PST) at gamingtoptalent.com.
May pre-auditions will take place during the NG16 Investing in Games Summit on Wednesday, 18 May – further details to be announced soon!
