Finnish studio Pikkukala and South Korean game developer Flexball Inc. will work together to bring the popular characters of the pre-school animation TV series Saari to the game Saari Tales on Android and iOS devices.
Saari Tales is an immersive digital storybook with narrative-oriented puzzles featuring new episodes coming up every month.
Flexball will handle game programming and distribution in Asia while Pikkukala will take care of the game design and distribution beyond Asia. The collaboration between the European and Asian companies comes as a consequence of their encounter at Nordic Game 2015 in Malmö, where Flexball CEO Henry Park made several presentations.
“We are very happy with this collaboration. Flexball is the perfect partner for us given their experience and position in the Asian game market. We share a vision about innovating and breaking barriers in kid’s content. The co-production model is very common in other media like animation, but it is still unusual in video games,” says Pikkukala CEO Pablo Jordi. “Saari was the first animated series we ever made. It is very special for us and we are excited to see the results.”
“I fell in love with characters and music of Saari animation when I first saw it. I was more than happy to hear Pablo wanted to work together with us for a meaningful and fun project like this,” says Flexball CEO Henry Park. “I hope there will be more cross-cultural collaborative projects like this in the future.”
