Early June, Asger Gitz-Johansen, co-founder & managing director of Danish indie studio FennecFox Entertainment, received an email from Microsoft. An invitation to have a trailer for their upcoming game Clash shown as a part of the Xbox indie programme ID@XBOX show reel for E3 in Los Angeles.
“Having our trailer shown at E3 was a unique opportunity that we did not expect being this young and new in the games industry,” says Asger Gitz-Johansen.
In order to be part of the E3 show reel the three-man team at FennecFox Entertainment had to put together a one and a half minute trailer, a game description and design post cards to be handed out to the audience at E3.
Asger Gitz-Johansen estimates that it took the team around a week to get the material done – Microsoft covered the cost of printing the post cards. The team also decided to send out a press release just ahead of E3, with great local success.
“We have tried to keep up with all the stories written about us, but it was hard getting an overview of it all. It has mostly been stories in the Danish press, both specialist and newspapers, and a single international interview,” says Asger Gitz-Johansen.
Having their trailer shown at E3 did not result directly in new contacts or more international press coverage, however: “It was just as we had expected. Not only are we a small studio, but we also did not have the funds to be at E3 in person. Everyone focuses on the big game developers,” says the Danish developer.
However, having the trailer at E3 gave the team a big boost to morale, Asger Gitz-Johansen thinks. It also showed business relations and network, that the studio is capable of developing a game of such a quality that it is good enough to be part of the world’s largest game trade show.

“That is what has made it possible for us to attend Gamescom in Cologne in August where we will hopefully be able get some more coverage on our game,” concludes Asger Gitz-Johansen.
