Defold concludes our partner wrap-up of NG16:
We hope that you have had a chance to try out Defold now, though some of you might be missing features that you need in order to switch to Defold full-time.
The features of the Defold game engine are heavily influenced by our in-house teams, who use the engine, provide feedback, report bugs and request features that they need to ship their games.
Now that we have opened the engine for everyone to use we want your input as well. Please share your views and requests on the Defold forum here.
For now though, better ad support and better 3D tools are two things that many developers have asked for. We’re working on it! Here are some thoughts on some of the things that we’ve done and are doing – improvements on the Defold roadmap:
Games should load faster
Everybody knows that games should load fast, and that level switching has to be instant, it’s just very hard to make games this way. Here at Defold we’re investigating many different ways to reduce the footprint of your game.
We think that developers should focus on making their games awesome and adding new content. So we’re designing a way to easily and seamlessly add new content to deployed games on mobile and web.
Better Spine support
Spine is an animation tool that artists love, so we suggest using it with Defold. We have a full set of feature requests to make the support even better, like draw order keying, bone flipping, animation time offsets, and better compatibility with Spine 3.0.
Regular new features and bug fixes
Our release cycle of stable versions is biweekly. And every other week we release betas. So you have all the means to get new features and bug fixes on a regular schedule.
