Back to Bed, the surrealist puzzle game from Danish Bedtime Digital Games that was honored at the IGF Student Showcase in 2013 for its innovative gameplay and strikingly unique art style, is now available for the Android-based OUYA console.
In Back to Bed players step into the paws of “Bob”, a green, dog-like creature with the face of a man, and rove in the sleepwalker’s embodied subconscious, traversing a maddeningly misleading dream-scape in a desperate attempt to keep their physical form from stumbling into bodily harm.
The perils faced by players in the game are Bob’s subconscious manifestations of all-too-real hazards, so oncoming cars become menacing alarm clocks, and open manholes are seen as bottomless precipices.
The world of Back to Bed is an amalgam of the works of every surrealist to ever draw a wavy line where they saw a straight one, incorporating the headache-inducing, impossible physics of Escher, the swirling, hazy landscapes of Dali and even Magritte’s iconic green apple.
