Discovery Day, NG17

Discovery Day at NG19 flashback
Last Friday, 24 May marked the return of Discovery Day at Nordic Game 2019. From 11:00 on the final day of NG19, the conference halls and auditoriums at Slagthuset were brimming with exciting new titles, as well as tributes to the some of the region’s most artistic and innovative games.

As a NG19 participant, there were so many ways to join the Discovery Day celebration:

Discovery Day Showcase
Nordic Game once again hosted a selection of great new game projects from the region and around the world in the Discovery Day Showcase. Attendees could play the creations and meet the developers – or book their own tables and join show 🙂

Yonderplay returned to NG19
Created in close cooperation with long-time partners Copenhagen Game Collective, Yonderplay was an intimate, one-day event where developers chilled together and shared their games. As much a cosy fireside gathering as an exhibition, participants truly expanded their game horizons at Yonderplay.

Discovery Showcase, NG18

NGDC Finalist Expo flashback
Sixteen games by very talented teams from across Europe qualified for Season III’s Nordic Game Discovery Contest Finals at NG19.

From last 22-23 May, the NGDC Finalist Expo was where the qualifier winners competed for a spot in the NGDC Final Four. Over two days, a secret panel of judges visited the finalist booths, with the exhibitors tasked to convince them (and visiting NG19 attendees) that their game was best.

The NGDC Finals took place last Friday, 24 May from 15:00 in the Unreal Theatre. The NGDC Final Four battled live on stage before a jury of industry veterans, led by games legend Warren Spector.

All NG19 attendees also received a NGDC Finalist Expo ballot when they picked up their conference badge, with the most popular title receiving the NGDC Season III People’s Choice Award last Friday, 24 May during the final wrap-up session of NG19.

Nordic Game Discovery Contest Finals, NG18

NG19 speaker program flashback
The conference speaker program last 24 May was also packed with talks about great games, including the opening by Nomada Studio co-founder Adrian Cuevas, who talked about the creativity behind the stunningly beautiful GRIS, as well as the “Same Game, Different Music” panel, where a group of veteran composers each shared their scores for the lucky game chosen in our contest last year. Just a two examples of the packed NG19 program on Discovery Day!

NG19 After Hours
When all the talks were done, it was time to chill – and play the Discovery Day titles one might have missed. From 17:00-20:00, there were games, hang at the bar, snacks and a fond farewell (until next year) 🙂
